The Storm Rising or The Republican Flotilla in Danger Tea Towel

The Storm Rising or The Republican Flotilla in Danger Tea Towel

Hand coloured etching by James Gillray and published by Hannah Humphries on 1st February 1798. This print is responding to the French invasion threat of early 1798 and to the reports of the construction of an enormous raft to carry Revolutionary troops across the Channel. Here the raft is being winched towards shore by the Whig Opposition Fox, Sheridan, Tierney and Bedford. At the top right, however, Pitt Ð transformed into a god-like elemental fury Ð whips up the waves into a storm to swamp the vessel. Each gust of wind from his mouth bears the name of a recent naval hero.

This The Storm Rising or The Republican Flotilla in Danger Tea Towel is created using state of the art, industry leading Digital printers. The result - a stunning reproduction at an affordable price.
